Our Story
We met in 2010 when we both lived in the same apartment building in Mumbai: Quantum Park.
Amar’s sister, Gopika and Ananya would often hang out after school. On one particular afternoon, Amar barged into Gopika’s room to share his recent obsession with Rubik’s cubes. While Gopika was mortified by her brother’s presence, Ananya couldn’t help but think that the curly-haired boy, sharing his love for puzzles, was incredibly cute.
In the following months, Ananya developed her own obsession with speed cubing that crystallized her first impression of Amar. Amar, far too obsessed with shaving off seconds from his solve time, would fail to remember the day he met his future wife.
Over the next decade, the Punchhi and Tinaikar families would move around the world. Our moms continued to stay in touch, but we never crossed paths.
Fast forward to July 2022, NYC. A birthday party for our friend Ameera’s Dad, Salim, brought us together again. Ananya reminded Amar that they had met before, and we proceeded to spend several hours talking. Despite this promising start, we still failed to exchange numbers.
This time, Amar would make sure to remember their meeting.
He texted Ameera, who offered to pass along Ananya’s number. But, not wanting to be too forward with a family friend, Amar responded:
“It’s okay. I’ll just leave this one up to fate.”
In February 2023, Ananya attended a @drinks.first event hosted by her friend, Ariana. By coincidence, Amar decided to go out with his friends to that very same event.
In a sea of people, music, and LED lights, we ran into each other…again! We finally exchanged numbers and the rest is history.
In November 2025, Amar proposed to Ananya on the rooftop of Quantum Park, and after many years, fate finally got its way.
